Mjakazi Connect ("we," "us," or "the Platform") is committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of our users. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information in compliance with the Kenya Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2019.
By using the Platform as a Mwajiri (Employer) or Mjakazi (Domestic Worker), you consent to the practices described in this policy.
1. Data Controller
Mjakazi Connect acts as the "Data Controller" for the personal information collected through our website and services. We implement strict technical and organizational measures to ensure your data is processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 For Wajakazi (Domestic Workers)
To facilitate the "Verified" status and professional discovery, we collect:
- Identity Data: Full name, date of birth, and gender.
- Sensitive Personal Data: Scanned copies of your National ID and Certificate of Good Conduct.
- Contact Data: Phone number and email address.
- Professional Data: Years of experience, service categories, and certifications (e.g., Nursing, First Aid).
2.2 For Waajiri (Employers)
To facilitate access and concierge services, we collect:
- Identity Data: Full name.
- Contact Data: Phone number and email address.
- Transaction Data: M-Pesa transaction identifiers related to Access Fees.
- Requirement Data: Specific job requirements submitted via Level 3 Job Requests.
3. How We Use Your Information
We process your data for the following purposes:
- Verification: To perform 3rd party background checks on Wajakazi.
- Discovery: To display Wajakazi profiles to potential Waajiri.
- Matching: To facilitate contact between parties via the "Contact Vault."
- Concierge Services: To provide managed shortlisting for Level 3 subscribers.
- Communication: To send platform updates, payment confirmations, and match reports.
4. Data Disclosure & The "Contact Vault"
We do not sell or rent your personal data. Disclosure is limited to:
- Authorized Access: A Mwajiri with an active, paid subscription (Level 1, 2, or 3) is granted temporary access to view the Contact Data and Document Vault of Wajakazi.
- Service Providers: We share data with trusted 3rd party verification partners solely to confirm the validity of IDs and Certificates of Good Conduct.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose data if required by Kenyan law or a valid court order.
5. Data Sovereignty & Security
We take the security of sensitive documents seriously:
- Encryption: National IDs and Certificates of Good Conduct are encrypted at rest using industry-standard protocols.
- Access Control: Only authorized Platform administrators and active, verified subscribers can access sensitive documents.
- Storage: Data is hosted on secure servers with restricted access.
6. Data Retention
Verification Lifecycle: Verification data is retained for as long as the "Verified" badge is active (12 months).
Account Closure: If you close your account, your data will be deleted or anonymized, except where retention is required for legal, audit, or fraud prevention purposes.
7. Your Rights under the NDPA
Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion: Request that we delete your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements).
- Objection: Object to the processing of your data for marketing purposes.
8. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies to maintain your session (via Clerk Auth), remember your preferences, and analyze platform traffic. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings, though some features of the platform may become unavailable.
9. Third-Party Links
The Platform may contain links to 3rd party sites (e.g., payment gateways or verification services). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites.
10. Children's Privacy
Mjakazi Connect is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from individuals under the age of 18.

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. We will notify users of significant changes via the platform dashboard or email.
